THE COUNTDOWN TO THE BOLIVIA CONSTITUTIONAL REFERENDUM ON JANUARY 25
LA PAZ, Jan 20 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — The driving social forces of the Bolivian revolution and opposition to change start Monday a week of definitions for the Jan 25 constitutional referendum.
Rallies, caravans, marches, media propaganda and some clashes among the parties will characterise the following days, and the National Electoral Court set Thursday as final date for that campaign.
Farmers, workers, women, indigenous people and students led by President Evo Morales, who has visited dozens of the country’s localities, are campaigning for national re-foundation through the Constitution.
According to the president, the project under consultation represents a historic opportunity to strengthen the transformations implemented in 2006.
The text supports a better future for Bolivians, respect of their human rights, access to basic services like health, education, employment and drinking water, as well as fostering a nation without exclusions, the statesman said.
For Morales, the defense of natural resources and the prohibition of foreign military bases in the country is also included in the Constitution.
As of such arguments, the head of State stated he has no doubt of the approval of the new Supreme Law.
Oppositions led by the so-called Crescent departmental prefects Ruben Costa in Santa Cruz, Ernesto Suarez in Beni, Mario Cossio in Tarija, and Savina Cuellar in Chuquisaca are striving to revert the anticipated Yes by all polls and analysis.
According to experts’ surveys and predictions, more than 60 per cent of voters will support the new Constitution.
