Bandar Seri Begawan – Enforcement officers could encounter risky or dangerous situations in their line of work, especially while conducting raids during odd hours.

In an effort to lift the confidence level of the officers who go after some of the bad eggs in society for the safety and security of the country, enforcement personnel at the Department of Immigration & National Registration will be provided with insurance coverage from now on.

Insurans Islam TAIB yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide insurance cover for the enforcement officers.

Signing on behalf of the Department of Immigration & National Registration was Awg Salminan bin Hj Burut, the Acting Director of Immigration & National Registration, while Insurans Islam TAIB was represented by Pengiran Hj Abdul Rahman bin Pengiran Hj Mat Salleh, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Insurans Islam TAIB.

The signing, which was held at the Immigration Department, was witnessed by Dato Paduka Awg Serbini bin Hj Ali, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

With the signing of the MoU, enforcement officers are covered under the Group Takaful Plan while performing their duties or otherwise.

Awg Muhsin bin Hj Ahmad, the Assistant Director of Immigration, said the insurance coverage carries a significant element in lifting the confidence amongst the enforcement officers because as they carry out their duties, there are chances that they may face dangerous situations.

Enforcement duties have challenges and problems, but with the spirit of duty to defend and preserve peace, harmony and safety of the nation, the difficulties can always be resolved, he said.

Awg Muhsin said the enforcement personnel began to take group insurance coverage since November 2008, when the department was given the budget allocation for the matter.

Awg Hj Osman bin Hj Md Jair, the Managing Director of Insurans Islam Taib, said the signing of the MoU will provide coverage to 65 immigration enforcement officers.

According to him, the insurance plan covers a wide scope including death, disabilities, personal accident and partial disabilities. — Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
