Eighteen teams throughout Brunei are participating in the sepak takraw championship organised by Persatuan Pengadil Sepak Takraw Negara Brunei Darussalam (PEPESTA) with cooperation from the Youth and Sports Department and Dil R&H Sport.
They are competing for the Dil R&H Sport trophy.
The championship, held in conjunction with His Majesty’s 63rd birthday, was held yesterday and will continue on June 12 and 21.
A championship was launched by Awang Haji Bakar bin Manshor, Legislative Council member and Penghulu of Mukim Lumapas, at Sungai Kebun Sports Complex yesterday.
The participating teams include Sengkurong A, B, C and D, Berangan A and B, PSTDB Belait, BIPA A and B, Asean School A, B and C, BESETA A and B, Tutong, Sports School and Rimba.
According to the president of PEPESTA, Awang Haji Ibrahim bin Amit@Abdul Hamid, the objectives of the championship are to improve the quality of the sport and to scout for players to join the national team. It also aimed to strengthen ties among the players and their fans.
