Bandar Seri Begawan – Rose Lim walked away with a return ticket to Kuala Lumpur sponsored by RBA, after collecting the highest amount for the Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD) walkathon card collection with a total of B$5,783.
Presenting the prize to her yesterday at the Top Fundraisers Prize Presentation ceremony held at The Arch Restaurant in Gadong was the Director of RTB, Awg Hj Mahrub Hj Murni, who is also the chairman of SOBD.
Prizes were also given away to the rest of the 20 top fundraisers. Mary Goh won herself a one-night stay in a Superior Room – inclusive of breakfast for two – at the Empire Hotel & Country Club, Tina Ng and James Lee walked away with a one-night stay in a Deluxe room inclusive of breakfast for two at Rizqun International Hotel and Cynthia Bong won herself a one-night stay in a Standard room, with breakfast for two, at The Holiday Lodge.
Also winning hotel stays were Joanne Coles (one-night at the Orchid Garden hotel) inclusive of breakfast for two and buffet dinner for one, David Colclough and Koh Chun Siong (one-night at D’Anggerek Hotel), and Ellin Cheong Nee Chin who respectively won (one-night at Brunei Hotel with breakfast for two.)
The remaining 13 winners won meal vouchers sponsored by I-Lotus Restaurant, dinner for two at Rizqun International Hotel, meal vouchers and cinema tickets sponsored by Excapade Sushi Restaurant, bags and cinema tickets sponsored by DST and more cinema tickets sponsored by Seri Qlap Complex.
A spokesperson for SOBD said that this year’s event was the most successful the association has ever organised, citing overwhelming response with a total fund collection of almost B$50,000, well over the anticipated target of $20,000. She thanked volunteers and members of the public for their support in making the event a huge success.
Held on May 4, 2009, the fundraising walkathon saw people from all walks of life, including special needs individuals, braving their way through the heavy downpour from the Taman Muda’ Omar Ali Saifuddien in the capital right up to the finish line at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium. The event culminated in a charity bazaar that completed the day of fundraising success.
