LIVING in Brunei is a bless, especially for the hungry. Brunei is one of the countries in the world that would have the most restaurants in one area, and yes, we Bruneians love to eat.
There are many kinds of food that you can feast your eyes on, or better yet your taste buds on. Many places in Brunei offer the most delicious food around, and considering that the prices are very cheap compared to other places, imagine getting a full dinner at a mere three dollars!
This is one of the most amazing things that you can find in Brunei, the abode of peace and for that reason you won’t go hungry in Brunei.
Such delicacies are in abundance at places like the pasar malam or the night market in the commercial area of Gadong. Here you can find food as much as the eyes want to see, or better yet your taste buds wants to taste. Other places also sell delicacies all and around Brunei. You can find malay kuehs, noodles, rice of variations, barbecued chicken, meat , fish and all sorts of food. Go on to one of the stalls, and you can find that the food are all ready for you to choose and buy. Top it up with Brunei’s favourite drink, the hot Teh Tarik and voila, your stomach is full.
When my friends from Malaysia visited Brunei, they were also surprised on how the food is so much more cheaper, although there are many choices in Malaysia. They were really amazed at the prices that the stalls offered for delicacies such as the nasi goreng, kue teow goreng and many more.
They were even surprised that the nasi lemak with chicken and sambal in Brunei is sold at just one dollar! Comparing the price when my friend from Singapore was here for a visit, he was also amazed that a full dinner with three friends would cost double if in Singapore.
And yes, the once controversial Brunei’s own nasi katok is always a wonder for my visiting friend. They commented how lucky we were to be living here, cheap food, less traffic, really our land of peace amazes foreign visitors and all that is served with a smile.
