Through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Brunei Adventure Recreation Association (BARA) will be joining a group of sailors aboard 26 yachts making its way up the Brunei River from the Royal Brunei Yacht Club in Serasa to Kota Batu today.

Allan J Riches from Intrepid Yachting extended the invitation to allow Bruneians the opportunity to interact with the sailors. Hailing mostly from North America, Europe and Australia, they are made up mainly of retired couples who have lived on their yachts for the past five years and are currently touring the region together in this giant flotilla.

BARA hopes to give its members, the local youth, an opportunity to learn more about this interesting way of life, learn more about different cultures, a new sport and be exposed to different ideas and outlooks. At the same time, it is an opportunity for them to act as mini ambassadors, representing the country and sharing its culture, traditions and history with the visiting sailors.

The sailors will first reach Muara at 8am where BARA members will join them in their yachts to Kota Batu for lunch. The trip is estimated to end by 1pm. Those interested should contact BARA’s Secretary General, Shahiran Sherifuddin at 8668288 for enquiries.
