BRUNEI DPMM FC continued their unbeaten record against Singapore Armed Forces FC (SAF FC) this season as the two teams played out a drab 0-0 draw in the Great Eastern — Yeo’s S League at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium in Singapore last night.
It was the second consecutive draw for DPMM FC in away games following a 3-3 draw last week at Jurong West Stadium against Gombak United.
Six national players from SAF FC played for Singapore in the 0-5 demolition by Liverpool in a recent friendly game.
The new addition to DPMM FC squad, Croatian Drazen Govic, wearing number 8 jersey — once worn by DPMM FC Korean import Oh Ddog Yi — made his debut last night. The 28-year-old midfielder was trying to find his right rhythm at his position.
SAF FC who lost all the previous three matches against DPMM FC— beaten 2-1 at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, 0-3 at Jurong West Stadium in the early stages of the League Cup and vanquished in the League Cup final on penalties at Jalan Besar Stadium — dominated the the match.
Thai playmaker Therdsak Chaiman almost opened a score for SAF FC a few minutes after the whistle but his shot was denied by the cross bar.
SAF FC’s Ahmad Latiff had a golden opportunity to score but his volley in the 62nd minute was saved by the in form DPMM FC goalkeeper Wardun Yussof.
The home crowd, reportedly around 3,091 last night, almost got on their feet in the 72nd minute after Park Tae Won passed the ball to SAF FC team captain Aleksandar Duric, who in tandem with Therdsak Chaiman still failed to beat Wardun.
The duo was denied by Wardun who made another spectacular save from Chaiman’s left-foot shot.
DPMM FC was almost awarded an own goal by SAF FC’s player in the 75th minute after DPMM FC Govic’s shot deflected off a SAF FC player but SAF FC’s goalkeeper Shahril Jantan saved the ball from entering his net.
Vjeran Simunic, DPMM FC’s coach made two changes in the last six minutes by bringing in Hardi Bujang to replace vice-captain Rosmin Hj Kamis and Helmi Zambin for Md Shahrazen Said to hold on to the scoreless draw and earn a valuable point.
Two DPMM FC players, Haji Md Subhi Abdillah (31st minute) and Azwan Salleh (63rd minute) were yellow carded by referee Abas Daud last night.
DPMM FC’s next match will be on August 2 against Home United at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
In another match played last night, Home United’s hope to close the point gap against DPMM FC was shattered after they were beaten at home in Clementi by Super Reds, 2-1. Park Kang Jin (5th minute) and Yu Hyun Koo (29th minute) were on the score sheet for Super Reds and Peres De Oliveira (39th minute) scored the goal for Home United. Seo Su Jong of Super Reds (81st minute) was red carded.
