SWIFT action by firefighters saved a house in Kg Sungai Akar from being completely gutted by a fire on Thursday night
After receiving a distress call at 8.10pm, three fire engines from Berakas Fire Station and one fire engine from the Female Operation Unit rushed to the scene to combat the blaze.
Led by Senior Superintendent Shahreeni bin Haji Yusof, Commanding Officer of Operasi ‘C’, a total of 20 firefighters put the fire under control within 11 minutes.
The fire that originated from the kitchen also gutted a store.
An investigation identified a faulty extension to a gas cylinder hose as the cause of the fire.
Pg Haji Ibrahim bin Pg Haji Salleh, one of the residents of the house, sustained minor injuries on both his hands. It was estimated that about $10,000 worth of property was lost in the fire.
The Fire and Rescue Department reminded the public to inspect their gas cylinder hose and to switch off electrical items which are not in use for the safety of the residents.
Each house should also be equipped with a fire extinguisher in case of an emergency to prevent the spread of a fire.
