IN CONJUNCTION with the 63rd birthday celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the race coordination committee members organised a kayak competition for Brunei-Muara District at Kampong Batu Marang, Mukim Mentiri yesterday.
The guest of honour was Dato Paduka Haji Yussop bin Bakar, who also presented prizes to the participants.
The competition was participated by 10 teams, which comprised Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Royal Brunei Police Force, International Kayak Association of Brunei Darussalam, Perumahan Kg Sungai Bunga, Kg Pudak, Kg Taraf Bau, Kg Tamoi Ujong, Pusat Belia Canoe Club, Kg Batu Marang and Fully Infinity Crew Team.
According to Aznin bin Haji Tahir, the race was aimed at promoting the sport of kayak, providing youths a chance to show their talents and strengthening closer ties between the committee members, government agencies and village residents.
