Students debriefed by Muhd Nurfairuz Nazri (L).

Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) concluded its Fresher Week for the 2009/2010 new students intake. The Fresher Week concluded on August 1 with the students finalising their documents with the Student Affairs Section (SAS) and also finalising their modules using the online registration system.

During the Fresher Week nearly all UBD staff and department/section heads, academic and non-academic staff, Student Representative Council (PMUBD) and also 80 volunteering students were involved to make the event successful and meaningful.

During the one-week event various activities and functions were arranged by the UBD Student Affairs Section, which handled the UBD Fresher Week such as library tour (with support from UBD Library), Faculty Orientation at various faculties, online registration and others.

While in religious and spiritual aspect, UBD also conducted several religious events for the new intake such as religious briefing by officer from Syariah Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs and also Isra’ and Mi’raj function at the UBD Mosque last Thursday.

At the same time the Student Representative Council president Muhd Nurfairuz Nazri in his debriefing remark last Tuesday (July 28) said, “I would like to congratulate all volunteering students for making the event successful. It is in line with the motto ‘bekarih, berjarih and belurih’.” He hoped that by volunteering for UBD or PMUBD events it can foster relationship between the students of different faculties and at the same time the students also can work well with the UBD staff and meet the new students for 2009/2010 intake.

Muhd Nurfairuz Nazri also talked about the selection of the volunteers. He said nearly 200 students registered to volunteer for the UBD Fresher Week. It was difficult to choose at first but with cooperation from the Student Affairs Section and all exco units under PMUBD, they successfully selected 80 students for the event. He advised the remaining students who were not chosen to be patient, as more events will be conducted by UBD and PMUBD.

Meanwhile, UBD Student Affairs Section also set up its booth at the Chancellor Hall during the UBD Fresher Week. As it handles the welfare of the students, the section was active in assisting the new students in every enquiry such as financial and documentation.

Students who have not finalised their documents and still not having their Fresher Pack or Fresher Magazine can do so by claiming it at the SAS office during office hours.

Special thanks to SPSS security personnel for ensuring the safety of the visitors and everyone who was on duty during the UBD Fresher Week and also to the UBD Estate Department for providing manpower during the event.
