KAMPUNG Masjid Lama, Sabun, Pekan Muara and Pelumpong of Mukim Serasa in the Brunei-Muara district now has a new village head, Pengiran Haji Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman.

The appointment certificate presentation ceremony was held yesterday that was presented by Dato Paduka Awg Serbini bin Hj Ali, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The ceremony took place at the residence of the new village head at Kg Sabun in Muara.

Also present at the ceremony were the Brunei-Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Awg Hj Mohd Yussop bin Bakar, Member of the State Legislative Council, Yang Berhormat Awg Hj Bakar bin Mansor, the Penghulu of Mukim Lumapas, other Penghulu, village heads, officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and officers from the Brunei-Muara District Department, as well as residents of Kg Masjid Lama, Sabun, Pekan Muara and Pelumpong.

Prior to his new post, Pengiran Haji Osman @ Othman served for 13 years at Radio Television Brunei.
The guest of honour in his speech expressed his appreciation to the newly appointed village head, which is one of trust and honour given toward him by the residents of the villages to lead them in terms of development, progress, harmony and security.

He added that the roles and responsibilities that must be dealt with and implemented by each Penghulu Mukim and Village Heads are full of challenges not only in dealing with the everyday welfare of the residents and community but also the security, well-being and harmony of the respective villages.

These would be added with the high hopes and expectations of the village residents toward the development and progress that would provide added challenges to the capabilities of each Penghulu Mukim and Village Head in the administration and management of the village and Mukim under their respective supervision, especially for every newly appointed Penghulu Mukim and village head.

Dato Paduka Awg Serbini went on to say that the Ministry of Home Affairs through the district department would always povide courses and training to the Penghulu and Village Heads in order to enhance their skills and knowledge.

He called upon the Penghulu and Village Heads to fully understand their roles and responsibilities that have been outlined in the Penghulu Mukim and Village Head Services Scheme. He also urged all the residents in Kg Masjid Lama, Pekan Muara, Sabun and Pelumpong to give their full cooperation and support toward their newly appointed village head.

The function also coincided with the launching of a signboard for the newly appointed village head.
