A THAI national was brought before the Magistrate’s Court in Bandar Seri Begawan to face a corruption charge.
Champee Kruakaew was charged under Section 6(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131). Investigations by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that the defendant on August 24, at the vicinity of Jalan Batang Duri, Kampong Selayun, Temburong gave a gratification of B$70 to two Royal Brunei Police Force personnel as an inducement not to take action against him for driving without a valid licence which violates the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 68).
No plea was taken from the defendant and the court ordered the defendant to be released on bail of B$10,000 or two local sureties. The case was fixed for further mention on September 2.
