THE Sultanate yesterday recorded slightly hazy conditions, with visibility reduced from eight kilometres to around six kilometers in the afternoon and early evening.
The Meteorological Service said the haze is still quite’ moderate and is believed to be caused by forests burning in southern Sumatra, which has around 180 hotspots.
The fact that Brunei is experiencing southwesterly winds bellowing through southern Sumatra precipitated the situation.
In the readings made available by the Department of Environment, Park and Recreation, the Pollutant Standard Index (PSI) recorded from all the air quality monitoring stations (PM 10) yesterday showed that air quality in all four districts were moderate.
The PSI reading in Brunei-Muara was 54, Belait at 62, Temburong at 69 and Tutong at 69.
JASTRE said, during this period, the public is urged to refrain from conducting any open burning activities.
The public can access and obtain PSI readings online at www.env.gov.bn
