Consultative councils told to keep youngsters away from bad elements

IT IS imperative that village and mukim consultative councils organise youth activities and programmes to steer youngsters away from negative elements.

This was said by Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri SetiaAwang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yussof during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri visit to the home of Menengah/Bukit Sulang Village Head Awang Haji Roslee bin Haji Ahad in Mukim Lamunin, Tutong District yesterday.

The minister said, “We must not leave youths behind when it comes to village activities. Youths who are involved in negative activities not only pose problems for their families but also the village and mukim in which they live in.

“Therefore,” he said, “we must all work together to organise activities that youths can take part in.”

To show appreciation, the minister praised the efforts of village heads, members of villages and mukim consultative councils in taking care of the welfare of villagers, especially the underprivileged.

During a discussion between the minister and Awang Haji Roslee, the subject of farming in Kampong Menengah and Bukit Sulang was also brought up.

According to the village head, there is a need to upgrade skills and knowledge among farmers, especially in the suburban agricultural development farms (KPLB).
The minister responded by assuring that the issue will be directed to the Agricultural Department.

Meanwhile, throughout the visit, the minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Dani bin Haji Ibrahim, Acting Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Home Affairs Awang Haji Mohd Abdoh bin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Salam, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman bin PSI Pengiran Haji Ismail and other official from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Prior to visiting Awang Haji Roslee, the minister stopped over at the residence of Tutong District Officer Haji Idris bin Haji Md Ali.

Other village heads that the minister also visited yesterday were Bukit Beruang’s Awang Ahmad bin Aman, Panchor’s Awang Haji Kepli bin Abang Sapawi and Bukit Panggal’s Awang Haji Tasim bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

The objective of visiting homes of various village heads during the festivities was to foster close relations between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the villages.
