More than 50 senior officers and staff of the department attended the ceremony which was also conducted to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the renaming of Brunei Town to Bandar Seri Begawan and to remember the contribution made by the late Sultan, who is known as the Architect of Modern Brunei.
Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien abdicated in favour of his eldest son, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah who became the 29th ruler in 1967. The former Sultan remained as Defence Minister and assumed the royal title Seri Begawan. The renaming of Brunei Town (Bandar Brunei), On October 5, 1970, to Bandar Seri Begawan was in his honour.
Also present at the ceremony yesterday was Dato Paduka AR Hj Idris Hj Abas, CEO of Arkitek Idris and Pehin Orang Kaya Ratna Setia Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Hapidz Pehin Orang Kaya Laksamana Hj Abdul Razak, the Managing Director of Abdul Razak Holdings.
The recitation of tahlil and doa arwah was led by the an officer from the Department, Mohd Ali Hj Abdul Kahar. (ADI1)
