A CHINESE man yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge of assisting in holding a public lottery on June 28, last year.
The defendant, Swee Teck Kwang, 50, appeared before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court yesterday, and was represented by Counsel Mr Sheikh Noordin.
The defendant denied committing the offence, which is an offence punishable under Section 4(c) Common Gaming Houses, Cap 28, at a house in Kg Bukit Udal in the Tutong District.
If found guilty, the defendant faces a fine of not less than B$5,000 and not exceeding $50,000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, or both.
The case will be further heard again before the same court on October 19.
