Hj Afiq Hj Julah Oct 13th, 2009 .

13pic49UBD departments, faculties as well as the UBD Student Body (PMUBD) yesterday played their role in promoting “green image” to the students.

One of the initiatives was organising the “Adopt A Tree” programme, in which students have to pay to adopt a tree. The seedlings are currently supplied by the UBD Estate Landscape Department.

According to the UBD Estate, the trees bought by the students will be planted at the areas affected by the forest fires few months back.

UBD Estate has also identified several trees that are suitable to be planted at the selected areas.

The UBD Kuala Belalong Field Research Centre (KBFSC) officer was also present during the process of identifying the selected areas.

Meanwhile, another initiative was the launching of the PMUBD reusable bag, which was held at the PMUBD Shoppe. The bags are sold at $2 each.

According to PMUBD Head of Entrepreneurship Exco, Rahmalini, “The selling of the bags is one of the initiatives of the PMUBD Shoppe to go green as we are discouraging the students to use plastic bags as it will affect the environment without our knowledge.”

Also present to purchase the PMUBD reusable bag were the UBD Dean of Students, Dk Dr Nurolaini binti Pg Hj Muhammad Kifli, UBD Student Affairs Assistant Registrar, Zalinawati Mohaimin, as well as staff from UBD departments and faculties.
