The Fisheries Department of the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, for the second time organised a seminar on Management of Fish Rearing in Cages. The seminar is aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of fish breeding entrepreneurs. In this regard, the launching of the seminar was held this morning at the Orchid Garden Hotel in Berakas.
Present was the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, Dayang Hajah Asmah binti Haji Saman. In her speech, she said the fisheries sector is one of the sectors to be continously developed by the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources to contribute towards diversification of the country’s economy. Dayang Hajah Asmah also said the Fisheries Department will also develop the country’s fish breeding industry and plans to expand the industry into offshore areas. At present, land-based fish breeding projects at the 40-hectare Sungai Paku Phase Two area for the Recirculation Aquaculture System project are being implemented and is expected to be completed by next year. These will be offered to interested entrepreneurs. Dayang Hajah Asmah added currently there are 58 fish breeding entrepreneurs in the country producing 60 metric tonnes of fish. The two-day seminar is an incentive of the Fisheries Department to give support and better understanding of the entrepreneurs in fish breeding technology.
