In our last week article, Brunei fm wrote on Borneo Bulletin attacked website where Google has discovers malicious software including 18 trojans responsible in infecting 2 other websites and potentially high numbers of Borneo Bulletin web visitors. Past research shows that, this type of infection would take place automatically as web visitors browse an infected website. No installation of software or user interaction needed for the trojans to plant itself in a victim’s pc because it was designed to take advantage of ‘unpatched’ Windows operating system. Please bear in mind in terms of security, Microsoft Windows is not a perfect product, as new weaknesses are found each day, it requires constant security update 24/7 all year round as a never ending process.

This is why users in Brunei must invest on original Microsoft Windows operating system for their laptops and PC at home. Pirated copies will be denied security update services by Microsoft, making you a very very vulnerable web user on a Wild Wild Web for every second you are exposed to Internet connection. A simple visit to an infected website is all you need to be held hostage by online attackers.

This is not a new tactic employed by attackers to gain access to your pc, sometimes ago one of the bank in India online banking website was hacked and the website serves trojans and malwares which has the ability to capture all the username and passwords of online banking users. Even anti virus companies websites such as Trend Micro has become victims in the past.

Presuming you love freebies and your operating system is ‘Genuine’, Microsoft has provides Microsoft Security Essentials real-time protection for your home PC that guards against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software.

Brunei fm online team read an interesting post by Download Squad, where they stated that The Microsoft Malware Protection Center blog has posted some interesting numbers.

After its first week, Security Essentials has already been installed more than 1.5 million times. From the approximately 535,000 machines reporting statistics, MSE has logged over 4 million detections.

44% of MSE users are already running Windows 7 with XP following at 33% and the remaining 23% on Vista. The number of detections per OS is also interesting. 52% of the 4 million reported were found on Windows XP systems compared to only 32% on Vista.

So ‘Genuine’ or ‘Not Genuine’?
