BAG Networks has provided a consolidated effort to organise a designated community dedicated in acknowledging the necessity of empowering working women in Brunei whilst taking career breaks and the application of their knowledge in the society not only for a successful career but also a better standard of health and living.
It conducted an informal focus group facilitated by Azlan Mike Skinner, Country Manager of AM Capital (B) Sdn Bhd and supported by BAG Networks personnel.
It was attended by Attorney General Datin Paduka Hajah Hayati Pehin OKSDSP Haji Mohd Salleh, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, Dr Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Intan binti Haji Salleh, Director of Community Development, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Hajah Masni Haji Ali, President of BASMIDA and Datin Paduka Hajah Rokiah, President of Women Business Council.
The focus group gathered top women from government and private sectors including organisations to discuss and brainstorm ideas and suggestions on how to empower women through the-development of training programme particularly for women who take career breaks to take care of their children or family.
The first session looked at exploring ideas contributed by participants on understanding what women want to contribute to the progress and development of Brunei Darussalam. In the second session, participants proposed an action plan on ways to give training and prioritise areas where training is required.
The focus group was a follow up of the Women in Business held by Asia Inc last July. The brains behind the focus group, Puan Haslina Haji Mohd Taib, CEO of BAG Networks, said “At BAG Networks, we are very serious about attracting, retaining and advancing women. As an integral part of this world’s Human Capital and Diversity agenda, Women’s initiative such as this can focus on the development of female leaders, designing outcomes where women can contribute immensely to Brunei and the rest of the world.”
In an interview , she elaborated the central role of the focus group for women in Brunei, “The idea of this focus group is to educate women not in terms of just theory, but the application of theory by setting examples around the world, getting all the studies that are globally done, learning how things are done and involve discussions on what are the topics important for women in Brunei.
“The women present today are here to share what they’re doing in government or community and discuss aspects that are taken in consideration for women whilst taking their career break and to actually apply it to today’s environment alongside gaining access to what rights women have in Brunei and other countries.
