THE first batch of 10 athletes left for Hanoi, Vietnam yesterday for the 3rd Asian Indoor Games from Oct 30 to Nov 8.
Accompanying the contingent that comprised of athletes and coaching staff from the pencak slat event was Dayang Mariam binti Ulat, the chef-de-mission of the Brunei contingent.
Apart from pencak silat, Brunei will also be taking part in cue sport and wushu. The rest of the contingent will be going off today.
The athletes were selected based on their potential to compete against participants from overseas.
The Asian Indoor Games are not only to develop sports in Asia but also to increase youth participation in sporting activities.
When met at the airport, Dayang Mariam said: “We will try our best to obtain medals for Brunei Darussalam. I hope that the athletes can perform up to par and will be able to compete with the athletes from other countries.”
