FIVE Chinese nationals were caught for allegedly soliciting themselves after police raided their hotel room. One suspect even attempted to escape by jumping out of a window.
The Anti-Vice and Gambling Supression Unit— under the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) — made its move on the hotel situated in the capital on Tuesday following reports of illicit activities taking place there.
The women, all below 30 years of age, were suspected of being part of an alleged prostitution syndicate after officers found evidence to back up the reports.
Apart from large sums of foreign and local currency, police also found condoms, lubricants, birth control pills, and a list of telephone numbers believed to belong to regular sex clients.
According to police, one woman tried to evade arrest by jumping out of a window situated on the third floor of the hotel.
The officers nabbed her after she sustained minor injuries from the fall.
She is being treated at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Salehah (RIPAS) Hospital.
Five men between the ages of 30 and 50 who were suspected of being pimps were also detained Tuesday night. Four are Bruneians while the other is a Malaysian.
If found guilty, the five women could face a year in prison or a fine of $500 to $5,000, while the men accused of being pimps could face a five-year prison term and a $20,000 fine.
