BEAVER ENGINEERING turned around a poor first quarter performance to beat Liga Bumiputera 75-65 in last night’s LBC Cup action.
“But we came back strong in the second quarter and led by eight points, I think,” said de Vera in a telephone interview yesterday.
“I think Liga Bumiputera are very fast because they are a young team, but we managed to come back and maintain our game leading up to the third and fourth quarters.
“We were able to control their play as the game progressed,” added the coach.
It was their second win of the competition, the first an 82-46 result against Menglait All-Stars in their opening game last Saturday.
Vincent Superio was at the forefront of Beaver Engineering’s attack once again, the sharp shooter the game’s top scorer with 31 points.
“It was a really good performance from him (Superio) tonight (Saturday night) but it was not surprising since many of our players know him,” said de Vera.
“But we never underestimated our opponents and they played a great game,” said de Vera, adding that their next game is against Morley Movers next Sunday.
Hj Md Rahmat Hj Suhaili led Liga Bumiputera in scoring with 17 points.
The all-Malay team competed in the 38 years old and above category of the 3rd Manjaro Cup as a guest team last month and won all their games. However, they were without key players such as Ahmad Termizi Hj Nordeen, Zainul Ashyraf Hj Hussin and Ikram Damit last night.
