A 48-YEAR-OLD permanent resident man was fined $700 or serve jail for a month in default of payment for possessing undeclared beer.
Ahmad Ayuddi bin Abdullah @ Hayuh Aji bought 48 cans of Tiger beer worth $60 without a permit at the Kampong Bebuloh border for an Iban man.
The court heard that the Iban man had paid the defendant $80 earlier. The remaining amount was his tip for the service. The defendant was told to deliver the beer to a cockfighting ground.
Before he could deliver the beer, the defendant was stopped by Customs Preventive officers on October 23 at 10am in his vehicle with the bootleg at Jalan Kecil Batang Mitus bridge.
The personnel conducting a surveillance inspected the defendant’s vehicle and found, then seized, 48 cans of Tiger beer in the rear bonnet.
The court ordered the beer to be forfeited. The defendant’s car seized earlier was to be returned.
