UNIVERSITI Brunei Darussalam (UBD) will next month welcome 20 Korean students from Yon Set University Korea who will be here for a 10-day study trip as part of a student exchange programme.
This was yesterday revealed by UBD Language Centre (Korean) Lecturer Dr Kim Ji Yeon. “We are also planning to send as many UBD students as possible for an educational visit to Korea.”
During their stay, they will visit various places of interest including Temburong District and the water village.
“UBD is ready for visiting students,” said Dr Kim.
The Korean students will be introduced to MIB, Borneo, Geography, History and the Brunei culture, she added.
This is good for Korean students because they will come to practise their English, since they cannot speak Malay.
Meanwhile, the UBD Language Centre with support from the Korean Embassy in Brunei has organised a Korean Language and Culture Week at the UBD Chancellor Hall Foyer starting today until Nov 7.
There will be eight booths showcasing various information – Korea in brief, cooperation with Brunei and Asean-Korea, language, housing in green, slow foods, natural dyeing, Korean culture club, UBD and Youth Camp in Korea 2009.
There will also be Korean dance performance, singing and dancing competitions as well as a kimchi cooking demonstration at 4 pm, November 7.
In line with the theme Testa Konvo Universiti Brunei Darussalam’ this year, the theme of this culture week focuses on ‘green initiatives.’
The objective of this event is to promote public awareness on Korean language studies that the Language Centre is offering at the Undergraduate and at Continuing Education Programme levels.
