THE Royal Brunei Armed Forces’ Sports Council (MS ABDB) are on course to reach the final of the DSTGroup Brunei League Cup once again after beating Majra FC 3-1 in last night’s quarter-final.
The result books them a date with AH United in the semis on Tuesday, with defending champions QAF FC taking on AM Gunners FC in the other semi-final on Monday.
Starting the match brightly, Adi Said got Majra in front in the sixth minute when he connected on a delightful free-kick into the box from Noor Raimi in what was the team’s third shot on goal.
Their good start soon faded though as the army men would close the gaps in midfield and start carving chances.
Though they created numerous opportunities from set-pieces, they were only rewarded in the 52nd minute when Majra’s Ampuan Nurul Azami Ampuan Husin scored an own goal when the Majra backline failed to deal with a free-kick from MS ABDB’s Hj Md Yusof Hj Matyassin.
Majra’s goalkeeper Md Fakhrul Zulhazmi Yussof was rooted to the spot during the equaliser and he was equally as stationary eight minutes later when MS ABDB took the lead.
Playing with renewed confidence, MS ABDB sent in a cross from the left which was met by an unmarked Md Sardillah Hj Abdullah, the striker easily scoring with a glancing header.
Continuing to starve Majra of the ball, MS ABDB were stringing passes around with ease and their fitness and stamina gave them an added edge, finding acres of space on the flanks.
Receiving a pass from the left, striker Roy Suhardy Hanifah dribbled past his marker and unleashed a shot to the top right corner from outside the box to seal the win in the 73rd minute.
Judging from his post-game comments, MS ABDB’s manager seems to have a crystal ball.
“Two to three days before the game I told the players that Majra would score first and we would need to go all out and play perfect in the second half,” said MS ABDB’s manager Lt Col Dr Bahrin Hj Bintang.
“I was right. That is exactly what happened and the players executed well in the second half,” said the manager, adding that he was happy with the performance of his two strikers.
It remains to be seen whether his prediction for the game against AH United will be as equally as precise.
