ENFORCEMENT officers must pay close attention to ensure that careful steps are taken in carrying the trust and responsibility that had been given, so that no instances of mistakes or carelessness occur when they carry out their duties.
ACP Pg Hj Abd Wahab bin Pg Hj Omar, the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Royal Brunei Police Force stated this as guest of honour at the certificate presentation ceremony for participants of the “Understanding the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) Section 7″ course, yesterday, at the Multipurpose Hall of the Gadong Police Training Centre.
ACP Pg Hj Abd Wahab was speaking to some 102 participants comprising religious enforcement officers — appointed under Chapter 26 of the Syariah Courts Act, 1998 and Chapter 25 of the Halal Certification and Labelling Order, 2005 — from the Halal Food Control, Religious Enforcement and Akidah Control Sections of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Directors and Acting Assistant Directors from the Ministry of Religiou Affairs.
The course was meant to increase the performance and understanding of enforcement officers under the Criminal Investigation Department, as well as to provide more insight into items in the CPC Section 7, with special focus on procedures for surveillance, investigation of received reports, carrying out raids and arrests, collecting evidence and interrogating suspects.
“I hope that the items which were dealt with during this course will be of benefit to the enforcement officers who were
carrying out their duties and enforcing the law,” said the guest of honour in his speech.
The CID director added that this was only a basic course, and expressed his hope that cooperation between the CID and the Syariah Affairs Department would not stop there.
In congratulating all the course participants, ACP Pg Hj Abd Wahab said he also hoped for increased quality and positive collaboration between the enforcement officers of the two departments.
The CID director’s speech was followed by a few words from participant representative Hjh Norsinah bte Hj Hussin, who thanked the organisers of the course.
Participants later received their certificates for their involvement in the course, which was divided into three sessions during the school holidays.
The first session of the course was held from March 23-24, while the second took place from June 15-16, and the third and final session, from September 15-16.
The participants were also given copies of books entitled “Kanun Acara Jenayah”, “Kanun Peraturan Jenayah Penggal 7″, “Akta Majlis Ugama Islam” and “MahkamahMahkamah Kadi Penggal 77.”
