It was a night to remember as various women’s associations in Brunei Darussalam gathered to celebrate the birthday of Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha last night at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
This year’s celebration was organised by the Women’s Council of Brunei Darussalam together with the Brunei Shell Ladies Association (BSLA), Penjuru Association and Pekerti Association.
Accompanying Her Majesty were HRH Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, HRH Pengiran Bini Hajah Faizah, HRH Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bulqiah, HRH Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam and HRH Princess Hajah Nor Ehsani.
The celebration started with the national anthem and was followed by a speech delivered by the chairperson of the event, Brunei Darussalam Women’s Council President Datin Hajah Fatimah binti Dato Seri Abang Haji Razali.
After Her Majesty consented to cut a birthday cake, Her Majesty received a birthday card and pesambah’ from various associations.
Datin Hajah Fatimah spoke of several activities that were carried out by the Brunei Women’s Council recently such as religious functions and charity events including walkathons and donation drives.
She also pointed out that three members from the Brunei Darussalam Women’s Council were selected to represent the country at the ‘International Councils of Women—Counseil International des Femmes’ (ICW-CIF) 32nd General Assembly in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The meeting, which was themed “Progress For Women. Is Progress For All”, ran from October 13 to October 20, 2009.
During the dinner, Her Majesty, the royal entourage and other distinguished guests were entertained with an array of dazzling performances staged by the associations.
