PARENTS should constantly monitor their child’s development and protect them from becoming victims of international drug trafficking syndicates, the Head Narcotics Officer of the Preventive Drug Education Section, Narcotics Control Bureau said yesterday.
During a briefing on the subject at the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School, Abd Manaf Hj Lampoh spoke on how children are vulnerable to falling victim to the trickery of these syndicates who use the internet to lure unsuspecting victims to become drug mules.
“Parents must know who their children’s friends and contacts are,” he told an audience of Arabic religious school students and teachers.
He stressed the need for the students to be aware of the existence of such syndicates and the tactics they utilised.
He said that parents should particularly monitor their children when they enter chat rooms as this was one of the platforms identified to be where fiends of these syndicates lurk.
Although it was natural for parents to trust their children, Abd Manaf said that parents should be somewhat sceptical when their children wish to meet people, especially if they go overseas.
He urged parents to use their better judgment in situations such as this.
The lecture was part of the anti-drugs campaign for religious schools launched yesterday.
The campaign, “Anti drugs activities programme in religious schools”, was held in collaboration with the Islamic Studies Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA). The Brunei Times
