TONY HJ KARIM was named overall gross winner of the TOTAL Exploration & Production B V Company (TEPB) Charity golf tournament at the Grand Hall of the Royal Brunei Golf and Country Club (RBGCC), in Jerudong, yesterday.
Tony recorded a 79 to win the Men’s Best Gross beating some 97 other golfers to clinch the two-day annual event held at the RBGCC golf course.
“I think I could have done better. I missed a couple of birdies which were just inches away from the hole. That could have brought my score to around 74 or 75,” said Tony, who plays three to four times a week at the RBGCC golf course.
“This is my home course. I’m a member here so it wasn’t that difficult as I’m used to it already. Overall the competition was good and I really enjoyed it (the tournament),” added Tony.
In the Men’s Best Nett category, Pg Hj Zulkefli Pg Hj Besar was named the winner after carding a score of 69.
Meanwhile, Dr Beatrice Wajiri won the Ladies’ Best Gross category with a score of 98.
Lim Cheng Khim won the Ladies’ Best Nett category after carding a 91 on count back.
A donation of $20,000 was given to the Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (Dana) and on hand to collect the mock cheque was Dato Paduka Hj Junaidi Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Satia Dato Paduka Hj Hashim, the director of Dana.
Some $9,800 of the total was from the registration fees while the rest was donated by TEPB to show its support to Dana.
“The tournament went smoothly and the turnout was great,” said Zulhilmi Rambli, the communications officer of TEPB.
The golf tournament is held annually with all the proceeds received from the registration fees donated to a selected charity organisation.
