UJUNG Sapuh? Many would not know what or where this is, not unless you are an avid fisherman in Brunei.
`Ujung Sapuh’ is commonly known amongst local fishermen as the northeastern tip of Pulau Muara Besar. This is where a group of local fishing enthusiasts usually spend the night to participate in a small fishing tourney.
Friends of the vessel, ‘Precious’, totalling 30 men, pooled money to hold their first ever Ungah’ Grand Prix on November 14.
Calling themselves, ‘Precious Anglers’, they formed three groups – Buntih’, ‘ Tangat’ and `Kembura’ – all named after fishes.
After the final count, the group `Buntih’ emerged as the champion for the most catch.
Other winners were Husaif who caught the heaviest catch; Rajimi who got the most catch individually and; Rapawi, who won the target casting (popper) competition.
Despite the heavy downpour, all participants enjoyed the event. Due to the popular demand, the organisers said that there just might be more of such events in the future.
Members of the public can check out the gallery at www.preciousanglers.blogspot.com.
On behalf of all the participants, the organisers thanked all the sponsors of the event especially ‘Deep Blue Fishing’.
