“It all began with a diaper cake made for a close friend who had just delivered a gorgeous baby girl. With a newborn of our own, I knew diapers would make the perfect and practical gift for the new parents,” said Syida Alfaiz, a diaper cake practitioner that runs an online business called DiaperDorable Cakes.
“But simply wrapping up a package of diapers isn’t that much fun to give or receive, is it? So I decided to put some diapers together as fun and as creative as they can get, loaded with baby necessities that were sure to be treasured by the new parents… and the reaction we received (from them and the entire hospital ward) was priceless!” she said.
“I used to buy diaper cakes from a friend of mine in Singapore two years ago. When I was pregnant with my second baby, I decided to make my own unique gift for my friend.
“It was so well received, I made a few more for other friends. As words got around pretty quickly, my creations become an online business.”
Together with the tower of diapers, goodies are either hidden inside or attached on the outside to make the cake look even more beautiful.
Coming in many pastel colours, there are lots of pink structures to choose from and a plentiful amount of blues. Neutral colours with greens, oranges and yellows are perfect when the gender of the baby is going to be a surprise.
Sports-themed cakes are very popular for the parents who enjoy sports. Buying one for the baby shower is perfect.
Whichever type of design you choose to purchase or build for yourself, make sure that there are lots of baby items incorporated. Some items that are typically included are bottles, bibs, pacifiers, baby powder, baby lotion, baby shampoo, baby wipes… you get the idea.
Presenting a baby diaper cake will create not only lots of giggles and fun conversations about who is going to be changing the diapers from a cake, it also makes a beautiful presentation that can up the anticipation factor for that special day when the new baby comes.
