Golden day for Brunei silat

BRUNEI Darussalam collected three gold medals in all three Pencak Silat events in the 3rd Borneo Games 2009 held at the Youth Centre in the capital yesterday.

Siti Noradiyatul Amal bte Roslan first grabbed the gold medal for Brunei in the `Tunggal Wanita’ event putting Yunita Rahel from East Kalimantan in second for silver followed by Sarawakian Kamsiah bte Hanapi, third for bronze.

Siti Noradiyatul collected 457 points followed by Yunita with 451 and Kamsiah 444.

In the ‘Ganda Lelaki’ event, Brunei’s duo Mohd Fadzil Afifi and Mohd Nur Fadzillah emerged champion collecting 538 points to claim the gold medal beating Ade Ismail Ramadan and Rian Angga from East Kalimantan in second with 530 (silver) while Sarawak’s duo Samsul Salleh and Gadaffi Bahri Hamdan were placed third with 508 points (bronze).

Brunei’s contender in the `Regu Wanita’ event also made Brunei proud after bagging the gold medal for the country.

Trio Norleydiana bte Hj Raya, Norleyharyanti bte Hj Raya and Nurul Aimi Amalina bte Zainidi pocketed the gold medals after collecting a total of 468 points to beat the trio from East Kalimantan Ika Susanti, Heni Rusnawati and Susi Hayati who managed to collect 464 points for silver.

“Our preparation has paid off. The Silat athletes did a perfect performance and I am really satisfied with the results,” said Hj Abdul Razak bin Hj Md Dali, the manager of the Pencak Silat team yesterday.

The manager also added that their target of pocketing two gold medals is an accomplished mission and happy that the team had added another gold medal as a bonus.
