BRUNEI Darussalam shuttlers earned two bronze medals in the 3rd Borneo Games when their men and women’s team thrashed Labuan 3-0 in both categories at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex Multipurpose Hall in Berakas yesterday.
In the men’s team category, Jasper Yu Woon Chai won 21-11, 17-21 and 22-20 in the singles while siblings Md Syazwan Faiz Wahab and Md Syahmil Fajrin Wahab won 21-17 and 21-9 and Liaw Choon Siaw/Ak Abdul Halim Al-Hakim Pg Ismail won 21-9 and 21-10 in the first and second doubles respectively to outclass the Labuan team.
Meanwhile, in the women’s team category, Noor Azura bte Md Salleh won 19-21, 21-13 and 21-9 in the singles while FarinaAfida Hj Md Jalil/Noor Nekma Rainah Hj Rosli easily beat the Labuan pair in straight sets 21-6 and 21-9.
Farina Afida also won in the third singles with straight sets of 21-8 and 21-13.
“The men played better than the women but I hope they will bounce back in today’s game to at least earned another trophy for the country,” said Wu Xue Kai, the, badminton coach of Brunei Darussalam after the match yesterday.
