Visiting Kg Ayer to take photographs wasn’t always as easy as it is today.
In the 1980′s I was always a bit apprehensive of the rather primitive arrangement for boarding water taxis.
Not everyone was so nervous about it. Elderly ladies, with shopping bags in both hands, used to hop up and down these old fashioned ladders as if they were wide-open staircases.
I, on the other hand, with a camera in one hand, the other firmly gripping the woodwork, would nervously ease my way down to the boat. It was a relief to be safely aboard.
Compare that picture with today’s modern steps. Boarding a water taxi is child’s play nowadays.
