FOUR members of the Wai Yin Association from Hong Kong, comprising of former Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant titleholders and finalists will be leaving the country today after spending five days with several members of charitable organisations in Hong Kong.
Ms Olivia Cheng, winner of Ms Hong Kong Beauty Pageant in 1979 was excited to participate in all the activities lined up throughout their stay here.
“It’s my first time to Brunei and I find it so clean with fresh air as well with a lot of greeneries.
Especially at Ulu-Ulu Resort in Temburong, where we went up the Canopy Walk and we also got the chance to walk into the waterfall — its like an adventure for me.
Although it was raining, I find it very pleasant and we enjoy it very much,” she said.
Their visit also involved several events organised at the Empire Hotel and Country Club including a tree planting ceremony, and a range of fun-filled activities for the visitors.
Among the charitable organisations who came with the former pageants were the children and adults from Hong Chi Kwong Fuk Wai Yin Workshop, Hong Kong Single Parents Association Wai Yin Association Activity and Resources Centre and Fu Hong Society.
Their trip was dubbed as the ’5-day Brunei Way in Green Dream Tour’, where they stayed a night in the Ulu-Ulu Resort in Temburong for the nature tour and experienced a night tour of the Omar All Saifuddien and Jame Asr Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque as well as the Royal Regalia.
Fun and laughter were observed at the beach barbeque and bonfire at Marine Centre together with the members of the Empire Hotel and Country Club.
Ms Olivia Cheng was here with four other celebrity members — Ms Kayi Cheung, Ms Lily Ho, Ms Ivy Sung and Ms Rosa Chan to accompany the group as Caring Ambassadors.
Wai Yin Association was formed in 1982 after a group of former Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant titleholders and finalists talked about their dreams for Hong Kong.
They also touiched on what they could do to benefit the lives of those who were much less fortunate than they were, should they have the opportunity to do so.
The association is the only charitable organisation in the world founded by a group of beauty pageant title-holders and finalists.
Today, schools and centres have been named after Wai Yin, and more than 100 beneficiary recipients, non-government organisations, charities, and countless individuals have reaped the rewards of their good work.
The trip was made a success with the cooperation of Wai Yin Association, Jetour Charity Foundation, Brunei Tourism, the Empire Hotel and Country Club, PJ Majestic Tours, Royal Brunei Airlines Sdn Bhd as well as Blue Cross (Asia Pacific) Insurance Limited.
