THE Ministry of Health through the Continuous Medical Education (CME) Committee of the Department of Health Services, recently organised a Women’s Health Symposium. The symposium took place at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.
According to the committee, the symposium is aimed to educate and update health care professionals on issues related to women’s health, such as the management of heavy menstrual bleeding as well as the use and update of oral contraceptives.
Other topics covered included early pregnancy bleeding and other common health problems encountered by women.
The lectures during the symposium were delivered by various guest speakers specialising in the fields of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
A guest speaker from Singapore, Dr Beh Suan Tiong, who is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist and the immediate past president of the Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society of Singapore, was invited to deliver his lecture.
The other lectures were presented by a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist in RIPAS Hospital, Dr Mary Paul, and a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist from JPMC Hospital, Dr Chitra Karat.
The symposium was attended by more than 230 health professionals, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists, from the government and private sector.
The CME committee has in the past, organised health symposiums of various themes, and will continue to do so to ensure the safeguarding of public health.
