A TRAINING programme for entrepreneurs in rice production was held at Kampong Bebuloh, Kampong
Wasan and Mukim Pengkalan Batu in the Brunei-Muara District recently.
The event was part of their training programme curriculum. With the Agriculture and Agrifood Department initiating to establish a progressive, productive and successful farming communities, the programme aimed to recognise the important role an agricultural extension staff plays in helping the farmers widen their knowledge in various areas of farming and agriculture.
The agendas discussed during the meeting were ways to further improve rice production in the sultanate as well as other areas such as identifying different methods of plantation, weed control and types of rice often used by the farmers.
The meeting also gave an opportunity for the people present to identify rising issues as well as the chance to strengthen ties between the groups.
At the event, the entrepreneurs were divided into several groups guided by a facilitator with a staff of PhilRice present in every group. The rice producers then discussed any rising issues from their rice cultivation especially in matters of managing rice plants in their area.
