GOLDWELL professional haircare’s Trend Zoom 2008 World Champion, Mr Ken Hong, recently revealed some of the latest trend-setting hairstyles and colour in a hair show held at the Orchid Garden Hotel.
The event was organised by Braun On Enterprise, the sole distributor of Goldwell’s products. The one-hour event attracted some 100 hairdressers in the local industry.
Around 10 models, set in stylish and extraordinary hairstyle trends inspired by Avant Garde, were onstage for the catwalk.
Mr Ken Hong who emerged as champion in the Goldwell competition held in Spain last year went against 29 top hairstylist from around the globe said in an interview with the Bulletin, “The trend for next year would mostly be natural soft colour and short hair cut with a bit of length behind. As for long hair, the style would be a three-layer haircut. Meanwhile for men, a bob haircut would still be in style.”
Mr Ken Hong who is currently residing in Singapore started his career in hair fashion at the age of 20. However, his interested started off when he was only 14 years old.
Reminiscing on his past, Mr Ken said, “I have always been interested working in areas that involve creativity. I felt that hair fashion could give me the satisfaction of expressing my inner creativity. So when I was 20 years old, I met a friend who was in the industry and gave me the opportunities to kick start my career.”
Last year, Ken Hong was entered into the Goldwell’s Trend Zoom 2008 World competition and was able to beat contestants from the US, UK, Australia, Russia, France, Italy and many others.
He also said, “Winning the Goldwell’s Trend Zoom 2008 World Competition really helped boost my career. I can travel around the world and see the latest fashion trend.”
On matters of inspiration, the Malaysian born hairstylist said, “I do my research. If I am not at work, I would look at magazines or the Internet to look for inspiration.”
He added, ” Every time I see a dress or costumes, my mind would automatically think of a hair style that would suit the dress perfectly.”
Speaking about Brunei’s hair trend, he said, “From tonight’s show, I can see that most hair dressers here are very trendy.”
Mr Ken also added that he is currently in the planning process of opening his first salon in Singapore. Mr Ken Hong is scheduled to head to Japan and then Switzerland for a Goldwell hair show in the next few months.
