Some 129 fishing enthusiasts comprising men, women, senior citizens and children under 12 recently participated in a fishing fiesta held at Lubuik Putaran, Kampong Senukoh, Temburong.
Organised by the Mukim Labu Consultative Council, the contest was opened to members of the public including those from other districts such as Belait and Tutong as well as from Limbang.
The contest, officially opened by Temburong District Officer, Awang Metusin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba, saw competitors took part in two categories; Category A where participants had to fish from a bridge or Category B where participants had to fish from boats.
Winner for Category A went to Dayang Norliah Kahar from Belait District who was the first to get a catch while Awang Roslan bin Bakar won the Category B contest.
The fishing activity saw the launching of a rest hut for the fishermen of Mukim Labu by the guest of honour who also presented prizes to the winners.
Also present at the contest were Awang Sajalai Haji Timbang Acting Assistant Temburong District Officer, penghulu- penghulu mukim, head of villages and the public.
The objective of the contest was to attract foreign tourists as well aslocal participants.
