BRUNEI bagged its first gold medal of the 25th SEA Games yesterday when Hj Md Khairul Bahrin bin Hj Duraman won the pencak silat men’s single with a landslide victory.
The young athlete managed to score 472 points in his flawless display of pencak silat in the competition to outshine the rest of the field.
The silver medal went to Thailand with 447 points and host country Laos took bronze with 432 points.
Lee Ying Shi and Faustina Woo Wai Sii grabbed the country’s first silver medal after coming just inches away from grabbing a gold medal for Brunei.
They displayed a stunning performance in the women’s team dulian with weapon in the wushu event but lost the gold medal by a small margin of 0.01 to Singapore.
The pairing of Lee Ying Shi and Faustina Woo Wai Sii received a high score of 9.45 after their performance however their points was not enough to beat the Singaporean team who scored 9.46 points.
This was not the first time that Lee Ying Shi and Faustina Woo Wai Sii won a medal in an international competition. The duo helped Brunei’s wushu team to grab a bronze medal in the women’s team duilian with weapon at the 3′ Asian Indoor Games held at Vietnam recently.
Indonesia and Vietnam shared the bronze with a score of 9.37.
Ismi bin Bismi and brother, Isa bin Bismi, managed to bag a bronze medal for Brunei in the men’s team dulian with weapon. With a score of 9.2 points, Brunei shared the bronze with. Malaysia.
The gold medal went to Laos with a total point of 9.5 and silver was won by Indonesia with a score of 9.4.
As of yesterday, Brunei bagged one gold, one silver and five bronze.
