UP TO 40,000 are expected at the four-day “Year End Showcase 2009″ which kicks off today at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, organisers yesterday said.
The “Year End Showcase” or Yes will feature a motor show and a retail expo at the National Stadium.
Visitors will not only come from Brunei, but also from the neighbouring Sabah, Sarawak and even Kuala Lumpur, said Cherry Estacio, project manager at MediaHub Event Management and Marketing Solutions, which organised the Yes Showcase.
She said the event will also benefit Brunei’s hotels, restaurants and other industries.
Rosli Abdullah, Media Hub general manager, said because of the participation of Brunei’s car dealers, the event has grown to become the most in demand exhibition in Brunei Darussalam.
“We are looking forward to introduce to the market more new and better products and services,” he said.
He said the event hopes to promote businesses in the Brunei-Muara District and the country, to assist local motor companies, motorbike dealers, car audio and accessories distributors and other companies in the motoring business.
Estacio said, “We all know that Bruneians, and basically everybody, even from our neighbouring countries, are all fascinated by cars and any motoring-related products and services.
“That’s why we would be expecting a very huge crowd that will be drawn to the Indoor Stadium on December 17 to 20,” she said.
Kenny Wong, Media Hub’s operations manager and creative marketing specialist, said the market for organising events is very competitive.
“We have to be more creative, innovative and aggressive. We don’t want to just jump into the bandwagon and follow other people’s footsteps,” he said.
The event will feature outdoor booths from NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd, GHK Motors Sdn Bhd, QAF Transport Sdn Bhd, Setia Motors Sdn Bhd, Worldwide Motor Sdn Bhd, Tabung Amanah Islam Brunei (TAIB), Insurans Islam TAIB, Takaful IBB Berhad, BM-Supply Motor Sdn Bhd, Hock Tire Co and Hock Motor Co, BMC Food Industries Sdn Bhd, TGT Sdn Bhd, KFC, Ideal Food Industries Sdn Bhd and Jollibee.
Estacio said that indoor, 30 companies have confirmed their participation.
Wong said the event would also spur tourism arrivals.
“I guess everybody is now fully aware that the Brunei Tourism Board is supporting this … event,” he said.
“What we truly aim is to facilitate further our nation’s economy, to maintain stability and to be prepared for any economic crisis that would strike again globally,” he said.
Rosli said Media Hub collaborated with the local government agencies, including the police, the fire department and even Ripas to ensure everyone’s safety over the course of the event. The Brunei Times
