Preparing for emergency scenarios

THE Fire and Rescue Volunteer Course that was held in Tutong, which was aimed at preparing participants to respond to various types of disaster scenarios, came to a close yesterday.

The course was implemented by the Youth and Sports Department, in collaboration with the help of the Tutong Fire and Rescue Department, hopes to provide participants with further insights as well as the proper procedure an individual should follow when responding to emergency situations such as fires and accidents.

“The three-day course didn’t give us enough practical experience in the field. It did, however, give us beneficial insight into encountering emergencies that can happen at any time,” fellow participant, Nurol Hoda Muhammad Iskandar, said.

The course, she said, also allowed her and her fellow participants to prepare themselves to provide assistance to the Fire and Rescue Department when needed.

“It gave us knowledge on how to respond in the event of a fire and also made us realise that it is more important to prevent fires than to put fires out,” she said.

“The course also gave us insight into the roles and responsibilities of Fire and Rescue workers, while also giving us the opportunity to learn how to use the equipment and the proper techniques.”

Out of the 35 participants, two were awarded for their outstanding efforts — Salmi Isal and Dk Abdatul Muzzilah Pg Jams Kamal Ariffin.

“The course also taught us how to be more disciplined and cooperative in performing our duties.”
