Family-oriented Honda Freed

James Kon Dec 19th, 2009 .

Honda looked set to carve out a large piece of the local compact multi-utility vehicle market following the launch of the new Freed two weeks ago.

Built specifically to cater to the exciting lifestyle and needs of urban families, the Honda Freed is not only practical but also looks stylish.

Design under the concept of “Freedom to create the perfect lifestyle”, the Freed features Honda’s original low-floor and low-centre-of-gravity technology to achieve a compact body size that makes it easy to manoeuvre through city streets as well as a spacious cabin that enables adults to sit comfortably in all three rows.

The spacious interior design of the Freed allows passengers to move from the back seat to the front with ease. The two-layer console puts all the controls at the driver’s fingertips. Its wrap-around design keeps everything within the driver’s eye line to make driving safer for everyone.

The Honda Freed offers the kind of space required to meet the varying needs of a family. With its larger, low floor tailgate opening (height of 1,120mm and maximum width of 1160mm) enhancing storage space, it’s practical for loading and unloading everything from sports equipments to furniture. The third row can also be conveniently stowed away to create even more space.

The one-step floor design, easy-to-reach door handle and adjustable door opening steps all provide easy and secured access.

One of the eye-catching features of the vehicle is the side sliding door whereby with just a pull at the handle, the doors will automatically open or close.

The side sliding doors are also equipped with sensor so that if there were any obstructing objects in between the doors like hands while closing, the doors sliding motion would automatically stop.

Looking at the power of the Freed, Honda has put in its new 118ps (87Kw) 1.5L i-VTEC engine that could deliver a powerful performance.

Coupled with a newly designed five-speed automatic transmission, the Honda Freed produces a satisfying drive on the road.

Engineered for advance crash safety technology, the system reduces the impact of collision through the highly efficient energy absorption areas of the car that shield the cabin from collision force. The impact energy is cleverly channelled to the floor, potentially reducing impact by effectively dispersing the energy away from the occupants.

With a pricier price tag than some other Compact MUV, the Honda Freed may face tough challenges from other cheaper MUV in the market. However, the reason that many people might choose Freed, is for its unique deign and the quality that it possesses.

Members of the public who are interested in the car and want to catch a glimpse of it, can do so at the showroom of Happy Motoring in Gadong.
