SEVEN candidates from Institute Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) have been selected to represent Brunei Darussalam in the second edition of the Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Competition on The Memorisation of Quran and Sunnah for Southeast Asian Countries in Indonesia from December 27 to 29.
Brunei will compete in four categories. Mohd Najib bin Hj Aliakbar from Year 10 will compete in ‘Category 10 Juzuk (Verses)’, while Muhammad Abu Hurairah bin Ariffin and Ak Faris Ramadhani bin Pg Sellahhuddin, also from Year 10 will compete in ‘Category 15 Juzuk’. Meanwhile, Ak Khairul Ikhwan bin Pg Hj Alit from Year 10 and Mohd Huzailan bin Haji Kassim from ‘Pre U’ 2 will compete in the ‘Category 20 Juzuk’. Ustaz Yusairi bin
Asbol and Ustaz Aliman bin Hj Salim both Muallim (religious expert) from ITQSHHB will compete in ‘Category 30 Juzuk’.
Ustaz Haji Muhammad Termizi Mahmood, a tutor from the institute will accompany the seven candidates.
During a ceremony at the institute yesterday, the delegation was handed their plane tickets and monetary allowance by the Acting Special Duties Officer from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ustazah Hjh Faridah binti Hj Yaakob.
The delegation will leave for Indonesia on December 26 and return on December 30.
Among the aims of the competition is to serve the Holy Quran and Sunnah and to promote the general standard of the Quranic performance through the creation of the spirit of competition in the field of memorisation of the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
