LANCE Corporal 3541 Mohd Hannafi Awg Abas, who is attached with the Department of Investigation and Traffic Control, Royal Brunei Police Force, was yesterday brought before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate’s Court on one count of corruption under Section 6(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131).
According to a press statement from the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), DPP Dyg Hjh Anifa Hj Abd Ghani told the court that investigations conducted by the ACB revealed that the defendant on August 6, 2007 “corruptly obtained” a gratification of a sum of B$40.00 from one local as a reward for not taking action against the said person for contravening the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 68), at Simpang 74 Kg Mata-Mata Gadong.
According to the statement, no plea was taken from the defendant, and the Magistrate ordered for the defendant to be released on bail in the sum of B$5,000 or one local surety.
DPP Hjh Anifa Rafiza applied to the court for the case to be adjourned to January 13, 2010 to give the defendant time to consider his plea.
Senior Magistrate Radin Safiee granted the application and also agreed to the prosecution’s suggestion to release the defendant on bail.
