FISHING is a great pastime for many in Brunei Darussalam. During the weekends and on public holidays, some may spend the night camping out on the beach to catch the “big one”.
The traditional way of fishing is still practised by some people in the Sultanate. Interestingly, tradition fishing is done late in the afternoon when the sun is less harsh.
A popular traditional fishing technique is `Mengambit’, which involves lining up a net that is held by two poles and pulling it towards the shore.
Driftwood or branches can be used as poles. While ‘Mengambit’ is normally done by two people, it can also be done alone.
