KEEPING alert while on the road is essential for the safety and security of traffic users all around.

Bakar Hj Ibrahim, the deputy chairman Chairman of the National Road Safety Council said: “Lack of concentration as a result of fatigue amongst the reasons has been one of the major contributing factors to fatal car accidents according to surveys.”

Towards this cause the Green City Concepts in cooperation with the National Road Safety Council yesterday handed out cans of Red Bull energy drinks to commuters travelling to Brunei from Miri at the Sg Tujoh Immigration Control Post.

Entitled “Belt Up For LIFE”, the road safety campaign handed out 3,000 cans of the soft drink.

Bakar pointed out that this was one of the joint campaigns by both public and private sectors as aspired by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The deputy chairman in his message to the public also urged road users to adopt road safety by abiding the rules at all times. “By buckling the seat belt, the severity of accidents can be minimised or avoided all together,” said Bakar.

The drinks were given away together with a leaflet with messages from the Road Safety Council which reminded all road-users to buckle up for safety.

An officer from Green Safety Concept added that the road safety campaign was considered as one of Red Bull’s all-year-long activity. The idea for handing over cans of Red Bull to every passing driver is taken in order to improve their energy levels by increasing their endurance, alertness, concentration and reaction speed.

On hand to witness the campaign was Baha Hj Jamahat, the council’s secretariat.

A similar campaign was also held at the end of last year.
