OVER 200 participants took part in a ‘Jungle Orienteering Challenge’ at Wasai Batuh Mapan in Kg Pad Nunok in Mukim Kiudang, Tutong recently.
It was organised by the village consultative council to foster closer ties amongst the villagers and local community in line with the slogan, ‘one village, one community and one heart’. It was also to promote the waterfall site as a recreational area.
The villagers built huts and toilets for the comfort of the visitors. The Acting Tutong District Officer, Awg Mohd Soffian bin Hj Bungsu officiated the challenge and took part in the orienteering event. He also presented prizes to the winners in three categories.
He lauded the efforts made by the villagers, who had worked closely together and did not rely on the government assistance in beautifying the area. The cost of building the track along with the huts and improved access was around $20,000.
Awg Mohd Soffian also called on the visitors to look after the recreational park and not to pollute it with rubbish or use the area for anti-social activities. He believes that there are a few more waterfalls that are yet to be explored in Mukim Kiudang. Another waterfall site in Mukim Kiudang is Wasai Bedanu.
