BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Brunei Darussalam Sepak Takraw Association (Pestabaru) with the support of the Department of Youth and Sports is set to organise the National Sepak Takraw Regu Championship in February slated to begin before the 26th National Day celebrations.
The competition is open to all teams around the Sultanate associated to Pestabaru. The competition date and the venue will be announced at a later date depending on participation.
“We are expecting more teams to come and join since this is a national development plan for the sport,” Hj Md Noor Hj Hamid, the secretary-general of Pestabaru, told The Brunei Times yesterday.
“We are aiming to scout talented players that can one day represent the country in future competitions,” added Hj Md Noor.
They are hoping to prepare a squad for this year’s Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Melaka on June.
“Hopefully we will be able to get some good players to prove their performance so that we can have a team sent there to compete,” said the secretary-general.
Two categories will be contested. Entry fees for the Regu (Triples) category is $30 while for the Regu Double (Doubles) category is $20.
Entry forms can be obtained from the Receptionist of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas or at the Civil Service Club in Kampung Mentiri.
Entry forms and registration fees must be submitted before 4pm on January 21. Interested parties can contact Hj Md Noor at 8633368 or Hj Zaman Hj Samat, an officer of Pestabaru, at 8825580.
